    2018 OPV 15.6% World Record

    In 2018, a new class of non-fullerene acceptor, Y6, was reported. Organic photovoltaics made from Y6 exhibited a high efficiency of 15.7%, breaking the OPV world record as reported by NREL’s Efficiency Chart. The authors used Enlitech’s QE-R quantum efficiency system and Solar simulator to fine-tune the devices and achieve the records.

    2019 Perovskite 23.7% World Record

    In 2019, ISCAS reported a certified 23.7% efficiency for perovskite solar cells by improving the open circuit voltage and photocurrent. ISCAS adopted Enlitech’s QE-R quantum efficiency system and solar simulator to advance and optimize the performance of perovskite solar cells. The QE-R quantum efficiency system helped ISCAS identify the bandgap of the perovskite composition and confirm the comparison between Jsc(QE) and Jsc(SS).

    2020 Perovskite 25.5% World Record

    In 2020, UNIST in Korea reported a certified 25.5% perovskite solar cell on NREL’s Chart. UNIST installed Enlitechā€˜s QE-R quantum efficiency system in 2019. In a very short time, UNIST broke the world record for perovskite solar cells. The QE-R quantum efficiency system provides spectral information of the perovskite composition and insights into device performance improvement.

    QE-R has two independent lock-in amplifiers, both of which are two-phase (or dual-phase). Using DSP IC technology, these two lock-in amplifiers can acquire DUT’s signals and Monitor detector signals simultaneously. The time delay between them is less than 1 ms, which gives QE-R excellent repeatability of ≄ 99.5%.

    The QE-R system is designed according to IEC international standards, with dual independent lock-in amplifiers and the ability to control various light polarizations. This design enables QE-R to measure the quantum efficiency of multi-junction solar cells. Take the popular perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem solar cell as an example. Scientists use the QE-R quantum efficiency measurement system and its tandem cell measurement module to study the quantum efficiency spectrum of high-efficiency tandem solar cells. Using the guidance of its quantum efficiency spectrum to improve the conversion efficiency of tandem solar cells, the conversion efficiency reached 24.2%, published in Nature Energy (IF=60.858).

    The software can display a stacked graph of the quantum efficiency of tandem solar cells. The figure shows the quantum efficiency diagram of the perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem solar cell. 300 – 800 nm is the quantum efficiency spectrum of perovskite dot cells, and 500 – 1200 nm is the quantum efficiency spectrum of crystalline silicon lithium cells. In the figure, each layer of solar cell is tested three times, and the repeatability of the data can reach more than 99.8%.

    The figure shows quantum efficiency, reflectance spectrum, and internal quantum efficiency spectrum for the triple-junction sub-cell of the multi-junction solar cell. The QE-R quantum efficiency test system can not only test the quantum efficiency spectrum of each sub-cell of the triple-junction solar cell, but also test its reflectance spectrum R. Through these spectra, the internal quantum efficiency spectrum of each sub-cell of the triple-junction solar cell is obtained. The QE-R quantum efficiency test system can also perform short-circuit current integral calculation between the external quantum efficiency spectrum of each sub-cell and various standard solar spectra (AM 1.5G, AM 1.5D, AM 0, etc.), and obtain the standard solar spectrum of each sub-cell. Under irradiation, the short-circuit current density that can be generated (as shown in the figure).

The first part is that during the EQE measurement at each wavelength, the software performs the Jsc calculation simultaneously. After completing the EQE test, the software automatically calculates three different Jsc values under AM1.5G, AM1.5D, and AM0.
